Our President

DR. SAMUEL ELMER HYDE, SR.

DR. SAMUEL ELMER HYDE, SR. graduated from Clear Creek Baptist College, Pineville, Kentucky in May 1963. During his time in college he was pastor of Riverview Baptist Church in Calvin, Kentucky.

He returned to Hampton, Virginia (where he lived prior to college) and started Victory Baptist Church, with his and three other families, in October 1963. He worked as a construction superintendent for two years until the church was large enough to support him full time. His wife, Shirley, has played a vital role in all of the ministries up to this point and those that have followed over the years.

The Central Baptist College of Hampton, Virginia extended an invitation to Pastor Hyde to teach in their institution. Which he did from September 1966 until January 1986.

Victory Baptist Children’s Home was founded in 1978 as a church ministry with Pastor Hyde as its director for the next eleven years. With the children’s home there was a need for a school. The children attended Central Baptist School for two years and in 1980 Victory Baptist School was started. Since additional training was required, Pastor Hyde attended school in Lewisville, Texas. After completing this, he has served as principal until the present.

Other studies include twenty-five hours of study in constitutional law at Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina. Study and preparation has a definite goal in Pastor Hyde’s life. Since 1981 he has attended two annual seminars in order to improve his abilities to serve the Lord. He continues to attend seminars.

With the expertise of Earl F. Hodges, Pastor Hyde led the Victory Baptist Church in establishing Victory Baptist Bible College. He has served as its president since its’ founding in 1987.

In May 1994 Tabernacle Baptist College and Theological Seminary, Virginia Beach, Virginia conferred a doctor of divinity degree upon him.

The Virginia Assembly of Independent Baptist elected Pastor Hyde to serve a three-year term on the board of directors. This assembly includes five hundred churches across Virginia.

Dr. Hyde a native of Bryson City, North Carolina and veteran the Korea war is a frequent speaker in alumni meetings, revival meetings, and pastor’s fellowship meetings.
